UFCJC 2021-2022 Hearst Journalism Awards Final Results
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) has received 21 honors in the 2021-2022 Hearst Journalism Awards competitions. The 62nd annual contests consisted of five writing, two photojournalism, one audio, two television and four multimedia competitions with championship finals in all divisions.
In the Intercollegiate Competition, UFCJC placed second overall, first place in Writing, fourth place in Photojournalism, and fifth place in the Audio and Television categories.
In the National Championship Writing Competition, Houston Harwood, B.S. Journalism 2022, placed second and Journalism senior Elise Elder was a finalist. Journalism senior Chasity Maynard was named a finalist in the National Championship Photojournalism Competition.

- Second Place in the Overall Intercollegiate Competition
- First Place in the Intercollegiate Writing Competition
- Second Place and a Finalist in the National Championship Writing Competition
- Finalist in the National Championship Photojournalism Competition
- First and Third Place in Investigative Reporting
- Second and 11th Place in Photojournalism Features and News
- Third and 19th Place in Sports Writing
- Fourth place in Photojournalism
- Fifth place in Audio and Television
- Seventh and 13th Place in Audio News Features
- Twelfth Place tie in Feature Writing
- Sixth Place in Television Features
- Eighteenth Place in Multimedia Narrative Video Storytelling
- Second and Fourth Place in Personality/Profile Writing
- Thirteenth Place tie in Explanatory Writing
The annual Hearst Journalism Awards offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends annually. There are 103 universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs that are eligible to participate in the Hearst monthly competitions.
