FAQ

Study abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that can be both exhilarating and a bit overwhelming at times. We’re here to help. Here are the most commonly asked questions in hopes that they’ll help you and your parents decide if CJC Study Abroad 2020 is right for you!

Why should I go? Study abroad is a unique and transformative experience that will open your eyes to the world, different cultures, foods, museums, historical locations, and other exciting experiences. You will travel with a large group of fellow Gators (in the past two years, we have had ~100 students) who will become close friends. You will see and do things at a unique time in your life. You will take classes you cannot take any other time of year or in any other place. You will impress future employers with your worldliness and global experience.

When does the CJC Study Abroad program take place? May 2020

How long is the program? Four weeks.

Where exactly will we go? The trip will be based in Barcelona, Spain. We will be going on side trips in Spain to visit Montserrat, Freixenet, Girona, and Figueres, and a 6-day excursion to Ireland, visiting the cities of Dublin and Gallway.

Do I have to be a CJC major/minor to go on the trip? No, all majors are welcome!

Do I have to be a University of Florida student to join the adventure? No, we take students from around the country!

How many classes can I take? Our students typically either take ONE or TWO classes abroad. One class = 3 hours; Two classes = 6 hours.

What classes are offered on study abroad? There are course offerings in all of the four concentrations in the CJC: advertising, public relations, journalism and telecommunications. All are UF classes and can help you earn your degree. Classes are available to freshmen through seniors, as well as graduate students. A list of courses is available under Courses.

Is financial aid available? Competitive scholarships are available via the UF International Center. Student loans can also be used to cover program costs. More on scholarships is available here.

Does Florida Prepaid or Bright Futures cover the cost of the study abroad trip? Both Bright Futures and Florida Prepaid can be used at the student’s rate per credit hour. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits to be eligible to receive Bright Futures.

If I will graduate next summer can I walk in spring? Yes.

Can I travel to Europe before or after the trip? Yes, but you absolutely have to make your own flight arrangements to and from the states. However, if you are taking Advertising Campaigns, you must come back to Gainesville with the group and continue your course for two additional weeks.
