UFCJC Students Nominated for 2023 Suncoast Chapter Student Production Emmy Awards

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications(UFCJC) student films and news reports were nominated for recognition in the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS) 2023 Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards competition.

In the Fiction – Long Form category, all three nominations were for films produced by UFCJC students in Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) Lecturer Iman Zawahry’s Narrative Collaborative Filmmaking course.

The film nominees include:

  • Indecision” by MPMT seniors Callie Carpinteri, Katrina Lee, Emilee Ford, and Eric Gorday, B.S. Telecommunication 2022, and Garrett Robles, B.S. Telecommunication 2022
  • “Dichotomy” by Amia Davis, B.S. Telecommunication 2022
  • “Lavender” by Jorge Garcia, B.S. Telecommunication 2022, Haley Mueller, B.S. Telecommunication 2021, Logan Sork, B.S. Telecommunication 2022, and Michel Thomas, B.S. Telecommunication 2022 and MPMT senior Jessie White

News and sports nominations include:

  • News Report – Light News: “Flying Golf Carts,” by Journalism senior Ophelie Jacobson, Mark Leeps, adviser
  • Magazine Program: “Hurricane Ian: The Aftermath,” by WUFT News Student Staff, Harrison Hove, adviser
  • Sports Story or Segment: “Rivalry & Traditions: Florida-Georgia Football Game in Jacksonville” by Journalism senior Chris Will, UFCJC Multimedia News Manager Mark Leeps, adviser

The fifth annual Suncoast Student Production Awards encourage the pursuit of excellence in video production and focus public attention on outstanding achievements produced by college, university and high school students. Winners will be announced later this year.
