The UF Distinguished Alumnus Award is one of the University’s most prestigious awards, recognizing alumni who have excelled in their chosen field or who have performed outstanding service for the University.

Miley is senior vice president of NBC News and MSNBC and serves as the head of Diversity and Inclusion for both organizations. She is responsible for talent management and development of people both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. She is also the executive in charge of weekend, overnights and early morning programming.

In 2016, she was awarded an Emmy for MSNBC’s and NBC’s coverage of the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Her awards include a national Edward R. Murrow award, an Emmy and a Society of Professional Journalists award for her role during coverage of the Marathon Bombing in Boston.  She also has two Emmy awards for coverage of the Andrew Cunanan/Gianni Versace story and the Downtown Miami Tornado.  She also won the Dupont and a Peabody for coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and four regional Murrow awards, one in 2007 and three in 2003, four Associated Press awards in 2004, and an additional Murrow in 2004.

She received the 2017 Chuck Stone Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ); the 2013 Urban League of Palm Beach County Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2007 Corporate Executive of the Year Award by the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce; and in 2016 she was recognized by the National Press Club for her work mentoring others in the industry.
