UF Business Senior Places 18th in 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards Photo One News and Features Competition

Lorenzo Vasquez, a University of Florida Business senior with a UF College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Mass Communication minor , has received 18th place in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards Photo One News and Features competition.

Vasquez is currently a creative sports photography and video intern at the University of Florida Athletic Association (UAA).

According to UFCJC Journalism Associate Professor John Freeman, “As a student photographer for the UAA, Vasquez produced an impressive assortment of sports and news photos throughout the past year. His attention to capturing the decisive moment, being aware of interesting light and telling the story combined to make his eight-image portfolio a winner.”

The Journalism Awards Program, now in its 64th year, also includes two photojournalism, one audio, two television, and four multimedia competitions. The program offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.

The first photo competition of the academic year included 113 entries from 66 schools.
