Marianna Faiello, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism senior, is the recipient a national scholarship from the prestigious Jim Murray Memorial Foundation (JMMF), named after the late American sportswriter and 1990 Pulitzer Prize winner.

Faiello received the scholarship and the annual Judges’ Choice Award for the best student sports essay at the JMMF 20^th anniversary gala in Los Angeles on Oct. 26.

The JMMF’s goal is to raise funds throughout the year to provide scholarships to undergraduate journalism students. They also coordinate a nationwide sports essay competition, with winners decided by a panel of nationally known journalists.

Faiello serves as the assistant sports editor at The Independent Florida Alligator and a sports correspondent for the Tampa Bay Times.
