Kay M. Tappan, MAMC 2011, has been named a Lecturer of Public Relations at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, Dean Diane McFarlin announced today.

Tappan will continue working with the College’s faculty and staff to examine the visual communication offerings for students in all disciplines and will lead the development of the College’s new Sight, Sound and Motion course. She has served as a Visiting Lecturer this past year.

“Visual communications is a key area in our College’s development and we are pleased Kay will continue developing and teaching courses that meet the needs of all our students,” said McFarlin. “Her collaboration with faculty and staff from throughout the College is crucial to growing this important area.”

Tappan earned her Master of Arts in Mass Communication with a specialization in international communication from the College in 2011 and won the Outstanding Master’s Student Award that year.

“With the move toward digital communications, collaboration and increased engagement, it’s an exciting time for the College, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” Tappan said. “Our students and faculty are top-notch; that, combined with new technologies for storytelling, makes the environment here is so incredibly vibrant and dynamic.”

Before returning to graduate school, Tappan worked for several years in the event planning industry and has public relations experience in the corporate, private and non-profit sectors. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and creative writing from the University of West Florida in 2005.
