Huan Chen Receives Prestigious 2024 UF Research Foundation Professorship

Huan Chen, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications  Advertising associate professor and chair, was named a 2024 University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) Professor.

The three-year professorships are awarded to UF faculty who have a distinguished record of research and a strong research agenda that is likely to lead to continuing distinction in their fields. Chen is one of 34 UF faculty members chosen for this honor in 2024.

Chen’s research focuses on the intersection of new technology and communication, particularly how innovative media formats facilitate the creation of meanings within diverse social and cultural contexts. She has produced 78 peer-reviewed publications, with 44 published in the last five years. Chen has secured over $400,000 in grants as the lead or co-lead investigator.

She currently is engaged in five research projects, three of which explore the dynamic relationship between AI and communication.

The UFRF Professors were recommended by their college deans based on nominations from their department chairs. The  award includes a $5,000 annual salary supplement for each of the the three years and a one-time $3,000 allocation to support their research. The professorships are funded from the University’s share of royalty and licensing income on UF-generated products.
