Evan Kropp (Ph.D., University of Georgia) is a higher education executive, educator, author, and speaker whose work focuses on institutional strategy, academic innovation, online education, faculty development, and the changing future of colleges and universities. He serves as Executive Director of Distance Education at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, where he provides strategic leadership for the college’s online undergraduate and graduate programs.
Since joining the college in 2019, Kropp has led initiatives designed to expand educational access, strengthen academic quality, support faculty, and ensure that programs remain responsive to changing student and workforce needs. Under his leadership, the college earned Certification in Education for Public Relations from the Public Relations Society of America for its online public relations program, launched new graduate programs and concentrations, and implemented a college-wide initiative to improve the quality of online courses. His administrative portfolio includes academic strategy, program development, enrollment growth, budgeting, organizational leadership, instructional quality, and student success.
Kropp is also an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology, where he teaches graduate courses and mentors students and emerging educators. His scholarship and professional work examine how institutions can adapt to artificial intelligence, demographic change, evolving student expectations, and new models of teaching and learning while maintaining academic quality and institutional purpose.
Beyond the university, Kropp is an active writer, podcast guest, media commentator, and speaker on higher education leadership and innovation. He is the creator of Kropp on Campus, a higher education newsletter exploring academic leadership, teaching, artificial intelligence, online learning, and institutional change. His writing and commentary have appeared in University Business, Forbes, Fast Company, Faculty Focus, Computerworld’s Today in Tech, The Higher Ed Geek, and The EdUp Experience among others. He is also the author of the forthcoming book University Teaching in the Digital Age: Making Sense of Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education to Teach with Confidence, scheduled for publication by Cognella in January 2027.
