Brechner Center Faculty and Research Associates Represented at National 2021 FOI Virtual Summit

Three University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Brechner Center for Freedom of Information faculty and research associates will present at three sessions during the National Freedom of Information Coalition (NFOIC) 2021 FOI Summit to be held virtually from Sept. 28-30.

The virtual FOI Summit will include panel sessions and two hands-on training seminars. Sessions focus on FOI lessons learned from the pandemic along with presentations from the next generation of open government advocates and discussions on how to close the data gap in minority communities.

Daniel Delgado, research associate, will participate in the “Data Desserts: How to Close Gaps in Minority, Rural, and Tribal Communities” panel on Sept. 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. Later that day from 4 to 5 p.m., Sara Ganim, Hearst Journalism Fellow and host of the “Why Don’t We Know?” podcast, will be one of four panel presenters at “University and Other Public Institutions: How Do They Slide Under the Radar and What Can Be Done?”

On Sept. 29 from 4 to 5 p.m., Brechner Center Director Frank LoMonte will be part of the panel “Paywalling of Documents and Data: Are Private Third-Party Vendors and Claims of Copyright Putting Records Out of Reach?”
