Barnidge was previously an associate professor in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media at the University of Alabama. He is a journalism and political communication scholar, and his work focuses on how media technologies and online platforms shape political information flows and enable the emergence of new ideas and ideologies.
He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles on these topics, including publications in leading journals such as Journal of Communication, Political Communication, Digital Journalism and New Media & Society. He is an outgoing associate editor of the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, and he sits on the editorial boards of several prominent journals in the fields of journalism and communication.
Previously he was a faculty member at the University of Alabama and the University of Vienna in Austria.
