Outreach Coordinator - Professional Advising and Teaching Hub
John serves as Outreach Coordinator for the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, bringing more than 25 years of experience in higher education, student services, community engagement, coaching, and youth development.
A proud UF graduate, John earned his Master of Arts in Arts in Medicine from the University of Florida College of the Arts. His graduate work strengthened his commitment to using creativity, connection, and community engagement to support individual and community wellbeing, principles that continue to influence how he approaches his work with students and families.
Before joining CJC, John served as a Career and Technical Education Specialist and Recruiting Coordinator at Pensacola State College, where he developed partnerships, connected students with educational and career opportunities, and supported student success initiatives. Earlier in his career, he served as a Dean of Students in New Orleans public charter schools and as a Dropout Prevention Specialist in Terrebonne Parish Schools, where he helped develop culturally responsive programs to reduce dropout rates among Native American male students.
John’s career has also taken him beyond traditional education settings. A former collegiate athlete and cheerleader, he coached college cheerleading at McNeese State University and the University of Nevada, Reno. He served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Arizona. His international experience includes spending a year in China coaching gymnastics in Shanghai and Changzhou, working alongside local athletes and coaches while gaining a deeper appreciation for cross-cultural learning and connection.
John previously spent a year at UF CJC building relationships with high schools and state colleges throughout Florida, expanding outreach efforts, enhancing the college tour experience, and helping prospective students and their families navigate the college admissions process. As a first-generation college graduate, he brings a personal understanding of how meaningful exposure, encouragement, and connection can be when students are discovering what is possible for their future.
Now back at CJC, John is excited to continue building relationships with students, families, educators, and communities while helping the next generation of communicators find their place at the University of Florida.
