**APPLICATIONS
FOR SPRING 2026 WILL OPEN ON OCTOBER 15th**


CJC offers students one of the most extensive, hands-on sports experiences. Students can write articles for our online and broadcast properties, work behind the scenes producing UF sports events and do play-by-play announcing at one of the premier athletic programs in the country. Immersion opportunities include:


All spring immersion experiences from the Journalism Department are listed below. All immersion experiences are 1 credit hour unless otherwise noted.

Please keep in mind these are applications, not guarantees that you will be enrolled.


Intro to INC Sports (JOU4201)

Instructor: Jeremy St. Louis
Meets: Mondays, Period 4 (and one 3-hour shift once a week in the INC)
Shift assigned at the beginning of the semester
*No prerequisite

Students learn the introductory basics of multi-platform sports reporting in our state-of-the-art facilities. This immersion experience focuses students on the basics of digital content production and radio on-air experience that will prepare them for working for WRUF-ESPN Gainesville, WUFT and other platforms within the college. This immersion experience is required for ALL students interested in other sports immersion experiences within the Innovation News Center.


WRUF-ESPN Gainesville (JOU4201) 

Instructor: Arnold Feliciano & Shemar Woods
Meets: Fridays Period 4
Shift assigned at the beginning of the semester
*Prerequisite: Intro to INC Sports or permission for the Sports Director

Students will get the opportunity to cover and report on local high school sports for our WRUF.com website and WRUF 98.1. Students will be trained in posting content to the website, audio editing, interviewing and be given the tools to cover high school sports in a multiplatform team environment. Familiarity with Adobe Audition audio editing software is advantageous.


WRUF-ESPN Gainesville 2 (JOU4201)

Instructor: Shemar Woods
Meets: Fridays Period 4
No regular class meeting or shift required
*Prerequisite: Must have completed ESPN Gainesville or permission from the Sports Director

Students will get the opportunity to cover and report on Gators sports for our WRUF.com website and WRUF 98.1. Students will be trained in posting content to the website, audio editing, interviewing and be given the tools to cover high school sports in a multiplatform team environment. Familiarity with Adobe Audition audio editing software is advantageous.


WRUF-ESPN Gainesville 3 (JOU4201)

Instructor: Jeremy St. Louis & Shemar Woods
Meets: Fridays Period 4
*Prerequisite: Must have completed ESPN Gainesville 2 or permission from the Sports Director.

Students will utilize skills learned in the classroom and immersion experiences to cover the Gators football team, Gators basketball teams or other premier Gators sports beat throughout the Innovation News Center with a FOCUS on beat coverage and feature content.


WUFT Midday Sports (JOU4201) 

YOU CANNOT APPLY/REGISTER FOR THIS IMMERSION – YOU MUST AUDITION TO INITIATE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Instructor: Jeremy St. Louis
Meets: No Regular Class Meeting (but one 3-hour shift once a week in the INC)
Shift assigned at the beginning of the semester
*No prerequisite: Except that students MUST have auditioned on Dec. 4th or 5th to be considered

Students in this immersion experience will be anchoring and producing the segment for the noon WUFT newscast. The basics of video editing, use of producing software, and on-air presence will be taught and critiqued.  Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro is preferred (but not required).  Students will also be asked to shoot video and cover sporting events in the field on nights and/or weekends, so camera proficiency is also preferred (but not required).


WUFT First at 5 Sports (JOU4201)

YOU CANNOT APPLY/REGISTER FOR THIS IMMERSION – YOU MUST AUDITION TO INITIATE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Instructor: Jeremy St. Louis
Meets: No Regular Class Meeting (One 5-hour shift once a week in the INC and other duties as assigned)
Shift assigned at the beginning of the semester
*Prerequisite: Students should have completed the WUFT Midday immersion and students MUST have auditioned on December 4th or 5th.

Students in this immersion experience will anchor and produce the sports segment for the WUFT First at 5 newscasts. Knowledge of Premiere Pro and how to produce video packages is required.  Students will also be asked to shoot video and cover sporting events in the field on nights and/or weekends, so off-hours availability and camera proficiency is required.


WRUF-Sports Lab (JOU4201)


Instructor: Kevin Winter
Meets: Mondays at 9:30 a.m.
Show airs 2-4p Mondays and Fridays with prep time up to 2 hours in advance. All students must be available at these times.


*Prerequisite: Students are chosen at the discretion of the sports director and WRUF staff after an audition process to be determined during Sports Lab Interest Meeting. Materials are due on Sunday, March 23rd.

Students will begin to learn about the basics of producing a sports radio show, network producing and creating social media content for a radio station and digital platforms while covering one of the nation’s leading athletic programs.


Grandstand Magazine (JOU 4930)

The new student-run sports magazine is looking to expand its staff for the spring semester. Grandstand’s website and social media platforms will launch later this fall, with our first print issue to be released in March 2026. We meet weekly as part of the Advanced Sports Storytelling class.

We’re seeking students interested in feature storytelling (both short and longform), social media, editing, design (magazine layout and in-story/social art), photography and more to join our team. Grandstand will challenge you to think about different ways to approach sports storytelling — centered around creative, enterprising and fun content ideas.

*Prerequisite: You must have taken or are registered for Sports Reporting (JOU 4313C) and/or Magazine and Feature Writing (JOU 4308) -or- with staff leadership and instructor approval.

Live Sports Production (RTV3945)

Instructor: Dennis Black
Meets: Wednesdays, Period 7 (in addition to various Gators sporting events)
*No prerequisite

The CJC in cooperation with Gator Vision and the UAA offers this immersion experience to expose students to the basics of live sports production with the instruction and supervision of professionals. This immersion experience is required for students who wish to work for Gator Vision, ESPN/SEC network broadcasts and UAA video board shows.


WRUF/ESPN Gainesville Social Media Team (RTV3945)

Instructor: Justin Baxley & Kevin Winter
Meets: No Regular Class Meeting
Show airs 2-4p Mondays and Fridays with prep time up to 2 hours in advance. All students must be available at these times.


*No Prerequisite, but there will be a separate application process

Students will begin to learn about the basics of creating social media content for our sports radio station ESPN Gainesville and other digital platforms while covering one of the nation’s leading athletic programs.


Intro to Orange & Blue Sports Network (RTV3945)


Instructor: Ryan Urquhart
Meets: Tuesdays, Period 9 (other broadcast recordings every week to be determined)
*No Prerequisite

ESPN WRUF, in conjunction with UAA and Learfield, is offering a student experience focused on training in the art of live sports broadcasting from play-by-play to color commentary and the production of high-quality content for mass audiences. Students will train in state-of-the-art facilities to prepare them for live broadcasts. No prior experience is necessary. This is an introductory experience for students interested in the art of Play-by-Play and instructed by professionals.


Orange & Blue Sports Network (RTV3945)

YOU CANNOT APPLY/REGISTER FOR THIS IMMERSION VIA THIS FORM-YOU MUST AUDITION TO INITIATE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Instructor: Geoff Thompson
Meets: TBD (other broadcast recordings on a weekly basis to be determined)
Prerequisite: Intro to Orange & Blue Network and application/audition process

ESPN WRUF, in conjunction with UAA and Learfield, is offering a student experience focused on training in the art of live sports broadcasting from play-by-play to color commentary and the production of high-quality content for mass audiences. Students will broadcast Gator home sporting events. This immersion is for students who have prior PxP and color commentary experience and who have participated in Intro to Orange & Blue Network.

This requires a separate application from other immersions. As part of the application, you will need to include a link to your demo reel. However application/demo reel does not guarantee your acceptance into this immersion experience.



Two-Bits Creative (1 CREDIT HOUR)

Two Bits Creative is now accepting applications for the spring 2026 semester. The deadline to apply is Nov. 21st, 2025 at 11:59 pm. Interviews will be scheduled for Dec. 1st-3rd, with acceptance offers being sent out on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025. Two Bits Creative currently has six core departments: account management, graphic design, multimedia (photo/video/animation), social media, sponsorships, and utility. To apply, please fill out the application with your resume, portfolio, and requisite information. A cover letter is optional but encouraged.. Sports Information Officer (1 CREDIT HOUR)

Spend a semester serving as a Sports Communication Officer for a local high school sports team. Attend games, build relationships with local sports reporters and get real experience! (Students interested need to fill out the form linked below if interested)



Sports@CJC Social Media Team (Independent Study, variable credit)

Students will help generate content plans and ideas to boost the social media profile and awareness of the Sports@CJC program. Students will also assist in the creation of a weekly newsletter and other content as assigned. This independent study focuses on the basics of digital and social content production. Must have previous professional social media experience or relevant coursework. (Students interested need to fill out the form linked below if interested)
