Students can write articles for our online and broadcast properties, work behind the scenes producing UF sports events and do play-by-play announcing at one of the premier athletic programs in the country. All spring immersion experiences from the Journalism Department are listed below. All immersion experiences are 1 credit hour unless otherwise noted.

Intro to INC Sports (JOU4201) -INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

Meets: Tuesdays, Period 3 (and one 3-hour shift once a week in the INC)

Students learn the introductory basics of multi-platform sports reporting in our state-of-the-art facilities. This immersion experience focuses on the basics of digital content production and radio on-air experience, preparing students for work at WRUF-ESPN Gainesville, WUFT, and other college platforms. This immersion experience is required for ALL students interested in other sports immersion experiences within the Innovation News Center.
WRUF-ESPN Gainesville (JOU4201)– INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

Shift assigned at the beginning of the semester
*Prerequisite: Intro to INC Sports and permission from the Sports Director
Students will get the opportunity to cover and report on local high school sports for our WRUF.com website and WRUF 98.1. Students will be trained in posting content to the website, audio editing, interviewing and be given the tools to cover high school sports in a multiplatform team environment. Familiarity with Adobe Audition audio editing software is advantageous.
WRUF-ESPN Gainesville 2 (JOU4201) –INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

No regular class meeting or shift required
*Prerequisite: Must have completed ESPN Gainesville and permission from the Sports Director
WRUF-ESPN Gainesville 3 (JOU4201) –INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

Meets: Fridays, Period 4
*Prerequisite: Must have completed ESPN Gainesville 2 and permission from the Sports Director.
Students will utilize skills learned in the classroom and immersion experiences to cover the Gators football team, Gators basketball teams or other premier Gators sports beat throughout the Innovation News Center with a FOCUS on beat coverage and feature content.
WUFT Midday Sports (JOU4201) –INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

Meets: No Regular Class Meeting (but one 3-hour shift once a week in the INC)

WUFT First at 5 Sports (JOU4201) –INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER

Meets: No Regular Class Meeting (One 5-hour shift once a week in the INC and other duties as assigned)

*Prerequisite: Students should have completed the WUFT Midday immersion and students MUST audition on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1, 12 p.m.- 2 p.m. each day.
Students in this immersion experience will anchor and produce the sports segment for the WUFT First at 5 newscasts. Knowledge of Premiere Pro and how to produce video packages is required. Students will also be asked to shoot video and cover sporting events in the field on nights and/or weekends, so off-hours availability and camera proficiency is required.
WRUF-Sports Lab (JOU4201) –INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15
Instructor: Kevin Winter
Meets: Mondays at 9:30 a.m.
Show airs 3-4p Mondays through Friday, with prep time up to 2 hours in advance. All students must be available at these times.
Students will learn about the basics of producing a sports radio show, network producing, and creating social media content for a radio station and digital platforms while covering one of the nation’s leading athletic programs.
*Prerequisite: Students are chosen at the discretion of the WRUF staff after an audition process. Information will be sent to students who fill out the interest form below.
Grandstand Magazine (JOU 4930) – INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN SOON
We’re seeking students interested in feature storytelling (both short and longform), social media, editing, design (magazine layout and in-story/social art), photography and more to join our team. Grandstand will challenge you to think about different ways to approach sports storytelling — centered around creative, enterprising and fun content ideas.

ESPN WRUF, in conjunction with UAA and Learfield, is offering a student experience focused on training in the art of live sports broadcasting from play-by-play to color commentary and the production of high-quality content for mass audiences. Students will train in state-of-the-art facilities to prepare them for live broadcasts. No prior experience is necessary. This is an introductory experience for students interested in the art of Play-by-Play and instructed by professionals.
Orange & Blue Sports Network (RTV3945) INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

ESPN WRUF, in conjunction with UAA and Learfield, is offering a student experience focused on training in the art of live sports broadcasting from play-by-play to color commentary and the production of high-quality content for mass audiences. Students will broadcast Gator home sporting events. This immersion is for students who have prior PxP and color commentary experience and who have participated in Intro to Orange & Blue Network.
This requires a separate application from other immersions. As part of the application, you will need to include a link to your demo reel. However, an application/demo reel does not guarantee your acceptance into this immersion experience.
Live Sideline Reporting (RTV3945) INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15
Instructor: Brett Opdyke
Meets: Students will meet during Period 8 on Wednesdays for the first four weeks of the semester, then will be assigned to cover live sporting events and/or take part in virtual Q&A sessions with industry veterans at various times throughout the remainder of the semester.
Prerequisite: Junior Standing with previous on-air experience
Students in this immersion will have the opportunity to experience live sideline reporting for games produced by GatorVision for the SEC Network. Students will learn the preparation that goes into each live broadcast, have opportunities to do standups and interviews during games, and take part in peer review. Immersion will also include Q&A sessions with veteran hosts and sideline reporters currently covering games across the NBA, NHL and MLB.
This requires a separate application from other immersions. As part of the application, you will need to include a link to your demo reel. However, an application/demo reel does not guarantee your acceptance into this immersion experience. Fill out this interest form to express you interest only.
Gators Coaches Show (RTV3945) INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15

Meets: TBD Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Prerequisite: None
Students will take part in all aspects of producing the Florida Basketball with Todd Golden show. Roles will include show research and scripting, camera and lighting set up and operation, audio mixing, graphics and highlight builds, producing and directing.
Gators Lacrosse Live Production (RTV3945) INTEREST LIST WILL OPEN OCTOBER 15
Instructor: Nick Spagnuolo
Meets: Students will meet for the first 2 weeks of the semester on Fridays from 1pm-2pm. After this, students will be assigned to specific Women’s Lacrosse broadcasts throughout the semester.
