Frank Waddell named UFCJC Journalism Department associate chair

Frank Waddell, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) associate professor, has been named associate chair of the Department of Journalism.

Over the past decade, Waddell has demonstrated excellence in research, faculty mentorship and service. He served four years on the College’s Faculty Welfare and Development Committee, where he helped develop a college-wide mentoring policy and organized tenure and promotion workshops. He has also served multiple years on the Tenure and Promotion Committee, contributing to the development of Post-Tenure Review guidelines and assisting with faculty evaluations for promotion and third-year review.

In his new role, Waddell will collect assessment data and prepare the department’s annual assessment report, assist in identifying and pursuing grant opportunities to enhance departmental research output and serve as a strong liaison and advocate for research faculty.

Waddell’s strong record of scholarly productivity and funded research positions him well to help faculty develop sustainable research programs and interdisciplinary collaborations. His broad methodological expertise and collaborative work across the University reflect his commitment to supporting faculty across diverse research traditions and interests.

Additionally, he will assist with departmental initiatives that align with both his expertise and the evolving needs of the department, including awards, scheduling, outreach and increasing the visibility of faculty research and accomplishments.
