Dan Windels Named Advertising Department Associate Chair
Dan Windels, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Advertising senior lecturer, has been appointed Associate Chair of the Department of Advertising.
Since joining UFCJC in 2018, Windels has made significant contributions as an educator, mentor, and leader. He developed and regularly teaches Branding, Cultural Branding, and Account Management. He also revised the department’s internship program and serves as the Internship Coordinator, overseeing the internship courses ADV4940 and ADV4941. In 2021–22, he was recognized as the College’s Teacher of the Year.
He has also played a pivotal role in building experiential learning opportunities that connect students with the professional advertising community. He helped launch the College’s popular Brand Bowl during the annual Super Bowl game, now in its eighth year. He revitalized the American Advertising Federation North Central Florida chapter and serves as a member of the AAF National Executive Education Council, working with educators and industry professionals nationwide to strengthen academic-industry partnerships.
Windels has served on the UFCJC Faculty Senate, chaired the Faculty Welfare and Development Committee and led departmental efforts in student learning assessment and strategic planning.
Prior to his academic career, he spent more than a decade as a senior brand strategist with major advertising agencies including GSD&M, where he developed brand strategies for clients such as AARP, Popeyes, and The Truth Initiative. His early career also included 10 years in the film industry in Los Angeles, contributing to numerous feature films and national commercials.
Windels has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree from the University of Texas.
