Alica Coleman Named Managing Editor of UFCJC Innovation News Center
Alicia Coleman has been named the managing editor/associate chair in the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center. In this role she will serve as the deputy to the director, supporting strategic and operational leadership.
She will serve as the television platform manager, manage morning editorial meetings, day-to-day newsgathering operations across digital, broadcast and social and work as a cross-platform story scout for available assignments for students to cover throughout the region.
Coleman joined the College three years ago as a news manager for WUFT-TV in the INC. Her accomplishments during this time include the successful launch of “WUFT Midday,” a newscast that develops and trains reporters, anchors and producers, setting them up for success once they transition into the station’s signature “WUFT News First at 5” newscasts.
In addition, she has grown the weekday television newscasts into a hyper-local, fast-paced news product. She coordinated students’ hurricane coverage during last year’s storm season, for which the team recently won an Award of Excellence for best newscast in the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Suncoast Chapter Emmy Awards.
