UFCJC Students Nominated for 2024 NATAS Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards

Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student films and a student journalist have been nominated for 2024 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards.

In the Non-Fiction – Long Form category, “Runway Rivals,” created by UFCJC Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) senior Madelyn Markman, is a reality TV show about amateur fashion designers and models in a competition to create the best runway look out of locally sourced, secondhand materials. She was advised by Division of Media Properties Media Services Director Matt Abramson and MPMT faculty members Roxane Coche, Tim Sorel, Houston Wells and Iman Zawahry.

The Pinball Witch” was nominated in the Fiction – Short Form category. The film by MPMT seniors Nadia Cox, Teresa D’Angelo, Ty Capellini, Isabella Nielsen and Sean Bonnet is a coming-of-age story set in the 1980s that follows a young girl trying to make her mark in the pinball scene in a new town. The film was one of three produced in Zawahry’s fall 2023 Narrative Collaborative Filmmaking course.

In the Multimedia Journalist category, Journalism senior Chris Will’s “UF Turf Team” feature offered a behind-the-scenes look at how UF’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium gets ready for a Gator football game.

The sixth annual Suncoast Student Production Awards encourage the pursuit of excellence in video production and focus public attention on outstanding achievements produced by college, university and high school students. They will be presented on April 28 at the University of Miami.
