Shin, and co-author Wenlin Liu, studied how technology platforms enhance non-governmental organization (NGO) networking capacity and behaviors, using children’s rights organizations as test subjects. They found that online and offline interorganizational relationships fulfil different functions for NGOs and that online platforms can benefit “resource-poor” NGOs. They also found that the boundary-spanning capacity of information and communication technologies enables NGOs to expand existing interorganizational networks.
