Anirudha Biswas
Ph.D. Student
Anirudha Biswas is a Ph.D. student in Mass Communication at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, where he serves as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant. His research focuses on persuasive message design and testing to prevent the use of substances like alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and cannabis.
Before joining UF, Ani earned his M.S. in Mass Communications from the School of Media and Strategic Communications (SMSC) at Oklahoma State University, where he also served as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant. He graduated with a 4.00 GPA and completed a thesis on AI-generated health messages for e-cigarette prevention.
He also holds an M.Soc.Sc. and a B.Soc.Sc. in Mass Communication and Journalism from Khulna University in Bangladesh, where his master’s thesis examined how news outlets in Bangladesh deliver actionable cancer messages. Beyond the classroom, he worked as a university reporter for Protidiner Sangbad, a national daily in Bangladesh.
Ani’s scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Journalism Practice and News Research Journal, and presented at national and international conferences, including AEJMC, NCA, and ICA. He has received several awards, including the Top Pete: SMSC Outstanding Graduate Student Award, the GPSGA Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award, the SMSC Distinguished Researcher Award, and the Ed Paulin Scholarship at Oklahoma State University. He also served as principal investigator on a U.S. Department of State–funded grant that supported media and environmental literacy among journalists in coastal communities in southern Bangladesh.
When he is not working on research or teaching, Ani loves to play pickleball and cricket.
