Lindita Camaj co-authors articles on European media systems and social media agenda setting
Lindita Camaj, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism associate professor, is the co-author of two articles recently published in the academic journals Journalism and Communication & Change.
Camaj, University of Tirana Professor Alban Tartari and University of Prishtina Assistant Professor Dren Gërguri authored “The institutional logic of news source selection in clentelistic media systems: A comparative study of Albania and Kosovo. Their study examined source diversity in broadcast news in Albania and Kosovo’s hybrid clientelist media systems.
Their findings revealed persistent elite-centric sourcing patterns, with significant variation between the two countries. Albanian journalists report stronger influence from media owners, managers and government institutions, indicating a highly hierarchical and clientelist structure. In contrast, Kosovo’s media system exhibits a more fragmented and fluid environment. The article was published in Journalism on Aug. 13.
Camaj was also the co-author of “Toward an integrative model of agenda setting theory: A sociotechnical typology for the age of platformization and agentic AI” with University of Minnesota doctoral student Mahbubul Haque Bhulyan. Their study draws on sociotechnical frameworks to explore an integrative model of agenda setting research that maps out and bridges structural and agentic dimension while distinguishing unidirectional from multidirectional agenda flows. The article was published in Communication & Change on May 14.
According to the authors, “This analysis reveals a strong emphasis on user behavior and comparatively limited attention to platform architectures and cross-media dynamics. These findings expose gaps in understanding how platform governance and AI systems co-evolve with human agency to shape salience and framing of social agendas.”
They add, “Overall, the proposed model offers a conceptual and methodological roadmap for capturing the reciprocal, networked dynamics of agenda construction an increasingly AI-driven media ecosystem.”
