Qi Zheng to join UFCJC as an assistant professor in Public Relations in fall 2026

Qi Zheng will join the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Public Relations department as an assistant professor for the fall semester.

Qi comes to the College from Michigan State University, where she recently completed her Ph.D. in Information and Media. Her research focuses on crisis communication, public sector communication and the role of emerging technologies in public relations practice and stakeholder engagement.

Her work examines how organizations can communicate ethically, responsibly and effectively across a range of contexts, particularly during crises and within the public sector. Mainly using quantitative methods and an international perspective, her research explores how communication strategies can advance both organizational effectiveness and the public interest.

Qi’s scholarship has been published in journals including the Public Relations Review, International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction and International Journal of Business Communication. Her work has also received recognition and awards from ICA, AEJMC and the International Public Relations Research Conference (IPRRC).

In addition to her research accomplishments, Qi brings teaching experience in public relations, strategic communication and advertising at Michigan State University.

She received her master’s degree from Peking University, specializing in Communication studies and earned her bachelor’s degree at Xiamen University in Fujian, China.
