April 20, 2026

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism seniors Nicole Borman and Rylan DiGiacomo-Rapp placed fourth and 15th, respectively, in the 2025-26 Hearst Multimedia Enterprise Competition. The third Multimedia competition of the year received 78 entries from 48 schools.

Borman was recognized for “A Sweet Inheritance: How One Family Helps Shape Florida Agriculture.” The story chronicles the Cutts family who have been honey beekeepers in Florida for more than five generations. Due to her cumulative point total across the multimedia competitions, she will advance to the National Multimedia Championships in San Francisco as a wildcard.

DiGiacomo-Rapp was recognized for “The Catch.” Her story focused on the impact that coastal development, habitat loss and pollution has had on career anglers’ livelihoods.

Currently, UF is in third place in the 2025-26 Hearst Intercollegiate Multimedia Competition based on accumulated student points.

The Journalism Awards Program, now in its 66th year, added broadcast journalism competitions in 1988. In addition to the broadcast competitions, the awards program includes four writing, two photojournalism and four multimedia contests. The program offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends and is open to accredited undergraduate journalism programs from 104 schools within the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication.
