Luna Pittet Gonzalez is a doctoral student in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, specializing in public relations. Her research focuses on disaster, risk and science communication, with a particular interest in understanding how message characteristics shape perceptions and behavioral intentions. Methodologically, she is a quantitative researcher, with a preference for online surveys, experiments, and computational content analyses. Luna holds a master’s degree in International Public Relations and Public Diplomacy from Sookmyung Women’s University in South Korea and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Foreign Languages from Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 in France.

Her work has been published in The Social Science Journal, the Journal of Information Technology & Politics and presented at top academic conferences including AEJMC where her research won several top-paper awards, and ICA. She has also served as instructor of record for several undergraduate courses in public relations and communication and actively contributes to academic service as chair of AEJMC’s ComSHER Graduate Student Committee and webmaster for AEJMC’s Communication Theory & Methodology Division.

Research

Luna’s primary research goal is to explore how communication, across various formats and platforms, can help mitigate the impact of adverse events. Her work focuses on the factors that shape public perceptions of emergencies and the behaviors that follow. While much of her research has centered on natural and human-made disasters, she is also broadly interested in communication during general emergencies and social crises, and science communication. Methodologically, Luna is a quantitative researcher, with a preference for online surveys, experiments, and computational analyses such as network analyses and bibliometrics analyses.
