CJC Students Nominated for NATAS 2022 Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications student films and news reports were nominated for recognition in the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS) 2022 Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards competition.

Two films from the CJC Narrative Collaborative Filmmaking course led by Media Production, Management, and Technology Lecturer Iman Zawahry received nominations. “The Trip” by Maria Solano, Alyssa Archard, Taylor Vorburger, Peyton McElaney and Grace Elder and “The Man in Black” by Vance Buell, Samy Asfoor, Hamza Razuman, Yimeng Zhou, Vance Osteen, Tatum Westley and Sarah Husney were recognized in the Fiction Long-Form category.

In the news competition, “Never Say Never” by Chris O’Brien, B.S. Telecommunication 2021, was nominated in the News Report – Serious News category and “Black Thursday” by Pamela Comme, B.S. Telecommunication 2021, was selected in the Multimedia Journalist category. Victor Prieto, B.S. Journalism 2021, received a nod in the Video Essay category for “Run, Regas, Run” and also in the Sports Story or Segment category for “Advantage Chris.” In the Magazine Program category, Elizabeth Biro, Landry Baliton, Jill Colombo, Meleah Lyden, Guamay Martell, Anthony Montalto, Samantha Narson, and Alexander Someillan were nominated for “Rising from the Rubble.”

The fourth annual Suncoast Student Production Awards encourage the pursuit of excellence in video production and focus public attention on outstanding achievements produced by college, university and high school students.

The awards will be presented on May 7 at the University of Miami School of Communication.
