Cynthia Barnett receives Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting grant to study the relationship between pesticides and Parkinson’s disease
Cynthia Barnett, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) director of Climate and Environment Reporting Initiatives, has been awarded a grant from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting to support an investigative project by students in the Journalism Department’s Advanced Science, Environment and Health Reporting class.

The $16,000 award will fund UFCJC undergraduates’ reporting at the intersection of pesticides and other chemicals and Parkinson’s Disease, which has surpassed Alzheimer’s to become the world’s fastest-growing neurological disease. The class is reporting locally and globally in a collaboration with UF’s Dr. Michael Okun, director of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases, and media partners including WUFT.
