UFCJC Student Journalists, Alumni and Staff Honored in 2025 Florida Society of News Editors Journalism Contest
Fourteen University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications student journalists and recent graduates from WUFT, Fresh Take Florida, Atrium Magazine, and The Independent Florida Alligator and WUFT Report for America Reporter Rose Schnabel were honored in the 2025 Florida Society of News Editors (FSNE) Journalism Contest.
The annual FSNE Journalism Contest recognizes the best work across Florida’s newspaper industry.
Student competition winners include:

- Photography: Second place, Second place, Sydney Johnson, “Spelling Bee,” WUFT
- Video Storytelling: First place, Alexander Land, “Limitless Legends: Soccer Team Offers Girl with Limited Muscle Control a Chance at the Game,” WUFT
- Sports: Second Place, Liana Handler, “’Don’t Stop Playing:’ Girls Who Love Baseball Look to Show They Belong on the Field,” WUFT
- Features Writing: First place, Hanna Maglio, “Not Homeless, Just on an Adventure,” Hernando Sun
- Enterprise Writing: Second place, Sarah Henrry, “Mascot for Cruelty,” Atrium Magazine
- Enterprise Writing: Third place, Natalie Kaufman, “What’s Behind the Meteoric Rise of Online Gambling Among College Men,” The Independent Florida Alligator

The FSNE awards were presented at the 2025 Florida Media Conference on July 31 in Charlotte Harbor, Florida.
