Center for Public Interest Communications Collaborates with Nonprofits to Create Custom Training Sessions

June 24, 2025

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Center for Public Interest Communications has partnered with the CADCA, originally known as the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, to deliver two training sessions at the 24th annual CADCA Mid-Year Training Institute from July 20-24 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Understanding What Makes Us Healthy,” is a session designed for community advocates in tobacco and substance use prevention. Participants will explore how social factors influence health, using accessible, evidence-based communication strategies. The other session, “How to Hold a Meeting Where You Ask for Something,” is a professional development workshop that will help participants learn how to confidently engage with decision makers to have impactful meetings that drive results and foster meaningful professional connections.

The Center, under the direction of Ann Searight Christiano, a UFCJC Public Relations clinical professor, is the first of its kind in the nation designed to study, test and apply the science of strategic communications for change. The team of academics and professionals work with a variety of nonprofits and professional organizations in the U.S. and abroad to consult on projects and provide customized training.
