Career Trek – Dr. Phillips Center and Orlando Shakes

Join this Career Trek for the chance to tour the Dr. Phillips Center and Orlando Shakes in Orlando! On our visit, we’ll hear insights from employees about their roles and career journeys, network with leaders, and learn about internships, jobs, and other career opportunities.

Date: Monday, June 23, 2025
Time: 7:15 AM – 6:00 PM EST
Open to: UF students from all majors, especially those in theatre, theatre management, stage management, theatre production, design and production, marketing, business, human resources, or those interested in careers in these areas, regardless of major.

What’s included? Round-trip transportation from Gainesville to Orlando

Itinerary:

  • 7:15 a.m. – Meet at Reitz Union Circle Drive (nearest the Welcome Center garage)
  • 7:30 a.m. – Depart from Reitz Union Circle Drive
  • 9:45 a.m. – Arrive at Dr. Phillips Center
    • Students meeting the group in Orlando should arrive at this time (parking fees will apply.)
  • 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – Visit with Dr. Phillips Centers (includes lunch time)
  • 12:00-1:10 p.m. – Lunch at Lazy Moon or nearby restaurants
    • (1011 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32803)
  • 1:15-1:30 p.m. – Travel to Orlando Shakes
  • 1:30-3:30 p.m. – Visit with Orlando Shakes
  • 3:30-6:00 p.m. – Return to Gainesville

During our visit to Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, a world-class venue known for hosting Broadway tours, concerts, community events, and more. We’ll explore the spaces where the magic happens, from the performance halls to the state-of-the-art production areas. Along the way, you’ll meet professionals who power the center’s work in programming, guest services, fundraising, marketing, and technical operations. We’ll wrap up our visit with a networking opportunity to connect with industry experts and explore how your passion for the arts can translate into a rewarding career.

Next, we’ll head to the Orlando Shakeswhere we’ll step behind the curtain to learn how this dynamic professional theater brings classic and contemporary works to life. We’ll tour the venue, connect with staff from various departments—including production, development, finance, and other key production roles—and hear from UF alumni working in the arts. You’ll gain insight into how careers in performance, stage management, administration, and fundraising all play a role in shaping this vibrant company’s impact on Central Florida’s cultural scene.
