Kun Xu Receives 2024-2025 Temple University Klein-Carnell Rising Scholar Award
Kun Xu, director of the Media Effects and Technology Lab (METL) and UFCJC Research Lab and University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Media Production Management and Technology (MPMT) associate professor in emerging technologies, has been named the recipient of the 2024-2025 Temple University Klein College of Media and Communication Klein-Carnell Rising Scholar Award.
The award, presented during Klein College Research Week in March 2025, recognizes a Temple University Media and Communications doctoral program graduate whose scholarly achievements indicate a promising research career. As part of the event, Xu also spoke at the Graduate Research Forum, which featured current research and creative projects and discussions on how research is shaping the future of media and communication.
Xu’s research areas broadly focus on human-computer interaction, human-robot interaction, computer-mediated communication and psychological processing of emerging technologies. His work investigates how individuals perceive, interact with, and respond to a range of AI-based technologies, such as social robots and virtual agents. He also examines how people use virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies to make sense of space and maintain social relationships.
