Jasmine McNealy to Speak at University of Wisconsin-Madison Research Colloquium
Jasmine McNealy, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Media Production, Management, and Technology professor and director of the Infrastructure for Communities, Ecology for Data (ICED) Hub, will be a presenter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mass Communication Center Ivan L. Preston Research Colloquium on Sept. 23 from noon to 2 p.m.
Her presentation, “Bring the Noise: Building a Framework for Sonic Privacy in the Age of AI,” will focus on the collection and use of sound. Sound allows for the creation of inferences and predictions about individuals and communities, which can modify behavior because of the perception of constant surveillance. She will pose questions about what can be done about the collection, processing and sale of some of the most intimate data and the inferences connected to it.
McNealy’s area of study includes information, communication and technology with a view toward influencing law policy. Her research focuses on privacy, online media and communities.
