The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) has placed second overall for the third year in a row in the Hearst Journalism Awards Intercollegiate Competition. The rankings are based on the highest accumulated points earned by individual students in the writing, photojournalism, audio/television and multimedia competitions.

The final UFCJC 2022-23 Intercollegiate Competition standings are:

• Overall: Second place
• Audio and Television Competition: Third place
• Multimedia Competition: Third place
• Writing Competition: Fourth place
• Photojournalism Competition: Seventh place

The Intercollegiate Competition consists of 14 competitions in writing, photojournalism, radio, television and multimedia. The competition began in November 2022 with Feature Writing and continued through the end of March 2023 when the final competition, Multimedia IV, took place.

The top five finalists in each competition earned scholarship awards with matching grants going to their schools for a total of $238,000. Each participating university also earned a $250 stipend for each competition entered.

The final UFCJC results for the 2022-23 Hearst Journalism Intercollegiate Competition category awards are:

• Television Features: Chris Will, first place; Ophelie Jacobson, fourth place
• Television II News: Alexus Cleavenger, seventh place
• Audio News and Features: Julia Cooper, 17^th place
• Multimedia Video Narrative Storytelling: Jordan Frye, eighth place; Macie Goldfarb, 20^th place
• Multimedia Innovative Storytelling and Audience Engagement: Alexis Ashby, second place; Avery Lotz, third place
• Multimedia Individual Digital News or Enterprise Story: Isabel Crist, 19th place tie, Elena Barrera, 19th place tie
• Multimedia Team Digital News or Enterprise Story: Sixth place, Kendall Brandt, Alexus Cleavenger, Amy Galo, Macie Goldfarb, Ophelie Jacobson, Emily Palazzotto and Christopher Will
• Explanatory Writing: Katie Delk, third place; Alan Halaly, 18^th place tie
• Feature Writing: Avery Lotz, 11^th place
• Personality/Profile Writing: Anna Guber, second place; Avery Lotz, 17th place
• Photojournalism News and Features: Lauren Witte, 10^th place
• Photojournalism Picture Story/Series: Lauren Witte, 7th place

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, now in its 63rd year, offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
