Andrew Selepak, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication lecturer and coordinator of the online master’s program with a specialization in social media, was a panelist for “The Heat: Social Media’s Influence” on CGTN America on Dec. 18.

The panel, led by CGTN host Asieh Namdar, featured Selepak, Seth Berenzweig, Berenzweig Leonard founding and managing partner, Tom Westgarth, consultant at Oxford Insights, and Liz Miller, Constellation Research vice president and principal analyst. They discussed the growing impact of social media on our thinking and political discourse. They also provided commentary on the Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma.”

According to Selepak, social media users are addicted to platform notifications and may have a difficult time putting the phone aside. He adds that social media literacy is something that you eventually learn over time.
