UFCJC PATH office launches pilot study hall program to foster student belonging, academic success and professional connection
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Professional Advising and Teaching Hub (PATH) office is launching a pilot Study Hall program designed to foster student belonging, academic success and professional connection.
The program, held in Weimer Hall room 3020 on alternating Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. throughout the fall 2026 semester, will provide a dedicated space where students can work independently alongside peers using a body-doubling approach that promotes focus, accountability and productivity. Body-doubling is defined as a productivity strategy where students perform a task in the presence of another person to help them focus, start a new project or finish an assignment.
The pilot program will also offer opportunities for students to connect with advisors, department chairs, faculty members and fellow students in an informal and welcoming environment.
The initiative was developed in response to student feedback, indicating a desire for stronger connections within the college community and additional support for maintaining academic momentum. Students will find that they do not have to study alone. They can connect with peers, access support, stay accountable and build professional relationships.
Increased student involvement and belonging are key goals for the program. Throughout the semester, students can increase their connection to UFCJC, foster a welcoming environment community across all majors, build study habits, schedule structured time to complete coursework and prepare for exams, facilitate informal networking with faculty and department chairs, encourage cross-disciplinary connections and reinforce professional identity and career readiness.
The PATH Office will track the program over the course of the semester to determine the interest in the program, the initiatives’ long-term viability and the potential for future expansion.
