Antoine Haywood receives American Journalism and Journalism History diversity micro-grant

March 9, 2026

Antoine Haywood, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism assistant professor, is the recipient of a $900 American Journalism and Journalism History diversity micro-grant. The grant supports research on the intersection of diversity and media history.

Haywood will use the funding to help cover travel expenses to visit the Wisconsin Historical Society, where several copies of the Florida Photo News are kept and can only be studied in person. While growing up in Palm Beach County, he read this African American newspaper.  A digital copy of this paper is not available in the UF archive so he will seek additional funding to digitize the newspaper collection and make it available to UF and the public.

The micro-grants are sponsored by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) History Division and the American Journalism Historians Association. The collaborative effort stimulates more diversity research for their journals, Journalism History and American Journalism.
