Maria Fernanda Camacho to Join UFCJC as Summer Media Institute Director

Maria Fernanda Camacho has joined the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center (INC) as an Assistant In and director of the Summer Media Institute.

Camacho is a bilingual journalist and educator with deep experience in investigative reporting, public affairs, and community storytelling across print, radio and digital media. Her work has focused on issues from disaster relief and government accountability to human trafficking, with coverage spanning local and national elections.

She made history as the first Hispanic woman to cohost a daily Spanish-language morning show on Gainesville’s 95.7 FM and has been a trusted voice in Central and North Florida’s Hispanic communities for the past several years.

For the past three years, Camacho has mentored students as an adjunct instructor at the INC, helping shape the next generation of journalists through immersive newsroom experiences.

Camacho holds credentials from the United States Press Agency and serves on the advisory board of the Santa Fe College International Center. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Media & Communications studies with a concentration in Journalism and a master’s degree in Entertainment Business, both from Full Sail University.
