March 3, 2023

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications doctoral student Ekaterina Romanova is the recipient of a 2023 Association for Academic Women (AAW) Emerging Scholar Honorable Mention Award.

AAW at the University of Florida established the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship and Emerging Scholar Awards to honor outstanding female graduate students. AAW presents one fellowship and the remaining fellowship finalists are automatically considered for the AAW Emerging Scholar Program. The awards are made possible by the support of former UF President Kent Fuchs.

The awards committee honored Romanova for her ability to articulate the importance and transformative potential of her dissertation work. They were impressed by her publications, presentations and outreach activities for her research.

According to the judges, “We commend you on your academic achievement, your compassion for helping communities and individuals within those communities and your dedication to helping others break down barriers to their success. We also thank you for sharing your personal story with us.”

Romanova is pursuing a doctorate degree in International Communication. She will receive the award and a $250 grant at the Women’s History Month Celebration later this spring.
