Paid Uprising Fellowship
As we launch Just Media, we’re hosting the rapid-response Uprising Fellowship for emerging writers. The fellowship, which runs through September, will offer financial and editorial support to publish writing in response to the following question:
How is the current uprising shifting the politics of policing and justice reform in your area?
Who’s eligible: The fellowship is open to emerging writers, ages 18-24, with a relationship to communities impacted by prison and policing issues. Young writers of color and those with firsthand experience with the criminal legal system are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fellowship benefits: Fellows will receive a $250 stipend and editorial support to publish a piece on this topic at a local or national publication. This stipend will be in addition to any fee offered by the host publication. They’ll also have opportunities to connect with professional mentors and build community as a cohort.
Questions? Email uprising@justmediaproject.org. We encourage folks to get in touch even if you don’t think you meet the guidelines above; we may still be able to connect you with relevant resources or opportunities.
