UFCJC alumni receive national Edward R. Murrow Overall Excellence award
Five University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) graduates and one UF alumnus from public radio station WUSF-FM in Tampa won the national Radio Television Digital News Association Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in the Large Radio Market category. The honor is among the most respected journalism awards in the world, recognizing the station’s commitment to public service above all else.
WUSF competed against regional award winners from across the country, representing the nation’s top 50 markets.
The station’s submission included broadcast, digital and social media work from all of its journalists. Nearly 20 individual stories, podcast segments and live breaking news coverage were represented, along with blog posts and web pages.
The alumni involved included News Director Mary Shedden (B.S. Journalism 1990); Assistant News Director for Digital Carl Lisciandrello (B.S. Journalism 2012); Sky Lebron (B.S. Telecommunication 2019); Gabriella Paul (B.S. Journalism 2020); Meleah Lyden (B.S. Telecommunication News 2022) and Malaika Hollist (B.S. Family, Youth, & Community Sciences 2015).
