Two UFCJC Journalism Students Chosen for ProPublica’s 2025 Class of Emerging Reporters
Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism (UFCJC) seniors have been selected for ProPublica’s 2025 Class of Emerging Reporters. The five-member class includes Gabriel Velasquez Neira, a deputy editor at WUFT-FM and an intern for WUSF-FM in Tampa, and Lee Ann Anderson an intern at The Hill and part of the UFCJC Fresh Take Florida program.
The 2025 Class will receive a $9,000 stipend, a trip to the annual National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR) investigative journalism conference, occasional training and presentations by speakers. They will also be paired one-on-one with ProPublica journalists who can help counsel them on stories, build their connections in the industry and expose them to the varied paths for careers in investigative journalism.
The students were chosen for their commitment to local news, their desire to pursue immersive training opportunities in newsrooms across the country and their dedication to careers in investigative journalism.
