Jonelle Henry to Receive 2025 WABJ Dr. Sheila Brooks Community Impact Award

Jonelle Henry, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) CJCxDC Student Immersion Program director and UFCJC Telecommunication alumna, will receive the 2025 Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) Dr. Sheila Brooks Community Impact Award.

This award recognizes a local business leader or organization that demonstrates outstanding dedication to community service in the Washington, D.C. region and beyond and whose transformative contributions have had a positive impact on disenfranchised communities.

Brooks is one of 10 recipients who will receive a WABJ Special Honors Award recognizing excellence in journalism, communications and community service. Each honoree was selected from a highly competitive pool of nominees that collectively represent decades of leadership, innovation, and impact across the media industry.

The awards will be presented at the 50th Anniversary Special Honors & Scholarship Gala celebrating five decades of excellence in Black journalism on Nov. 8 at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C.
