- Funding available: Total budget available is $350,000. Individual project budgets should range from $25,000 – $75,000.
- Period of performance: Funding will be available starting 1/1/2026 and must be spent within 18 months.
- Program Background: UF/IFAS is committed to advancing health and wellness through research, instruction, and outreach that links agriculture and medicine in a concept known as “Food is Medicine” (FiM). Using this approach, we can revolutionize how agriculture, nutrition, and medicine are linked, how food is used to address health and disease, and the role of agricultural sciences in designing and delivering foods that address unique dietary needs. To support this effort, UF/IFAS Research, Extension, and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, with support from the UF Vice President for Research, are announcing a call for the PLANTMED (Projects Linking Agriculture, Nutrition, and Therapeutic Medicine for Every Diet) seed funding program that will support integrated teams in Food is Medicine.
- Program Objective: Funds will be used to build and support cross-college teams working on one or more thematic areas in the “Food is Medicine” space. Funds will be used to support the following types of activities with clear deliverables and measurable outcomes: i.) gap analyses, ii.) preliminary data gathering, iii.) workshops or conferences to build cross-sector teams, knowledge exchange, writing retreats etc., and iv.) strategic engagement with sponsors (public, private, foundations, other). Proposals to diverse funding agencies is a required output. Examples of other outputs include but are not limited to i.) white papers, ii.) peer reviewed publications/special series, and iii.) coordinated responses to RFIs.
