Shemar Woods to Join UFCJC as a Visiting Associate Professor in Sports Media

Shemar Woods will be joining the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center as visiting associate professor in Sports Media in August 2025.

Woods is an award-winning newsroom leader and educator with more than a decade of experience shaping content and strategy at national media outlets. He has held editorial leadership roles at Sports Illustrated, ESPN, MLB.com, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Daily News, where he oversaw real-time sports coverage, long-form features and multimedia storytelling across digital platforms.

Most recently, Woods served as a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, a role he held since 2022. There, he helped lead the school’s sports journalism capstone program, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in immersive digital storytelling.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Hampton University and a Master’s degree in Sports Law and Business from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
