Antoine Haywood Receives 2025 ICA Outstanding Dissertation Award

Antoine Haywood, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism assistant professor, is the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the International Communication Association for “Focused [in] the Frame: A Study of African American Community Participation in Philadelphia Public Access Television.”

Haywood’s research focuses on community participation and representation in local media. He has studied how communities use local communication infrastructure such as community-made video, radio, press and digital publications to articulate regional identity, build social capital and fill local news and information gaps.

The ICA aims to advance the scholarly study of human communication by encouraging and facilitating excellence in academic research worldwide. The 2025 ICA conference was held in Denver from June 12-15.
