Two UFCJC Students Place in the Top 20 in the 2023-24 Hearst Audio News and Features Competition

Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism juniors have placed in the top 20 in the 2023-24 Hearst Journalism Awards Audio News and Features competition. Siena Duncan tied for 12th place and Ailee Shanes received 15th place. The contest included 70 entries submitted from 41 universities.

Audio News and Features entries must feature coverage of breaking or developing news and/or non-deadline news, non-deadline reporting of personalities, events, or issues. Entries may be based on but not limited to public affairs, business, investigations, science, sports or weather.

UFCJC is currently in third place in the Intercollegiate Broadcast Competition based on the number of accumulated student points from the Television One and Audio Broadcast Competitions held this year.

The Journalism Awards Program, now in its 64th year, also includes two photojournalism, one audio, two television, and four multimedia competitions. The program offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
