Fred Young Hearst Television Producing Fellowship Applications Open

It is a 10-13 week, fully paid fellowship which upon successful completion of the fellowship, leads to a full-time job at one of our stations. The fellows we select in November are placed after graduation and then later are placed in a job at one of our stations.

Criteria for Selection:

The candidate must have demonstrated an interest in and ability to produce news for television, radio or online.  Excellent writing skills, a demonstrated ability to produce a newscast and a good base of editorial judgment are important. The candidate must be interested in a career as a Television News Producer. He/she must have a strong academic record with at least two recommendations from faculty or internship supervisors.

Applicants must be completing their senior year of college, with a planned graduation in December of 2020. The applicant must be willing to spend 10 weeks post-graduation at a Hearst station of the company’s choosing and must be willing to relocate to an appointed employing Hearst station upon successful completion of the program. The Fellow will be paid approximately $692.31 per week for the 10-week program and job following the Fellowship. The Fellow is responsible for finding housing for the 10-week period.

Application:

Qualified candidates must send a letter expressing interest in the Fellowship and promoting his/her candidacy, an essay about the role of a producer in contemporary television news (one-page, single spaced maximum), a resume and a transcript. Two recommendations are also required with this application. Finalists will be interviewed by phone/in person.

Deadlines:

Applications are due by October 23rd, 2020.  Decisions will be made by November 20th.
