Diane McFarlin Selected for Florida Trend Magazine Florida 500 Recognition
Diane McFarlin, dean of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC), has been named to the second annual Florida Trend Florida 500 list.
Florida 500 is a Florida Trend special section that highlights the 500 most influential executives in different economic sectors throughout the state. The list is compiled by the editors of the magazine and offers a personal look at the state’s most influential business leaders.

McFarlin is recognized in the Information/Tech /Media category for her College leadership. Highlights include a top five ranking by College Magazine and national honors in the Hearst Journalism Awards competition. Her listing also mentions “Season of Sharing,” a charity she founded during her first year as publisher of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. The annual event, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, has raised more than $20 million to help families on the brink of homelessness.
In her listing, McFarlin, when asked what she’s learned, said “Ambition for an organization is profoundly more rewarding than ambition for your own career.”
