Norm Lewis, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism associate professor, has received a 2018 Fulbright Scholar Award.

The award will support Lewis’ 2018-19 academic year sabbatical to teach at the Gulf University for Science and Technology in Kuwait and study data journalism in the Middle East, a region that currently has no university-level data program, and where relatively few professionals have been exposed to data journalism techniques.

Lewis will research the practice of and potential for data journalism in the Arab region. He plans to conduct location-dependent research projects that might include newsroom culture and journalism ethics and possibly audience reception of news through various media channels.
