Bismillah Takes Home Top Emmy Honor

2007 graduates Jolene Pinder and Sarah Zaman recently traveled to LA to attend the 29th annual College Television Awards. They arrived at the ceremony knowing they were one of three finalists in the Documentary category. They left the black-tie event with the top Emmy in hand as the winner of their category. Bismillah: In the Name of Allah, was one of more than 400 entries submitted by 176 colleges and universities nationwide to be judged by members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Gala Awards Ceremony was attended by more than 400 industry leaders, including Academy members and governors, students, academics and the press.

This is the second year in a row that a DI student team has come home with an Emmy. 2006 graduates Isaac Brown and Eric Flagg took second-place honors last year for their film Gimme Green. See Student Awards

Jolene and Sarah were also recently accepted into Working Films’
Content + Intent Documentary Institute residency at Mass MoCA where they will develop an audience engagement plan. Check out the press release here: The Content + Intent Documentary Institute
