Rachel Grant Joins CJC as a Journalism Assistant Professor

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications announced today that Rachel Grant will join the College this fall as an as assistant professor in the Journalism Department.

Grant currently is assistant professor in Xavier University of Louisiana’s Mass Communication Department teaching classes in strategic communication, social media management and media law.

Grant’s academic research looks at media studies of race, gender and class and she has conducted extensive research with social movements, social justice, and Black feminism. Her dissertation focused on Black female journalists advocating for Black women during the Cold War period, specifically the Rosa Lee Ingram case.

She is currently conducting a study that explores the media discourse of historic, national symbols and the continuation of systemic racism and oppression. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Celebrity Studies and Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication Journal.

Grant has worked professionally as a news reporter for local daily newspapers and statewide magazines and has worked in corporate advertising as a digital copywriter. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri and M.A. and B.A. in Journalism from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
